Corfe Castle and Wellington Monument are set to shine bright during Air Ambulance Week, in support of our life-saving work. Taking place on the evening of Thursday 7th September, both National Trust buildings were keen to show their support in this awareness-generating activity.

At over 1,000 years old, Corfe Castle is one of Britain’s most iconic and evocative survivors of the English Civil War. It’s a favourite haunt for adults and children alike, captivated by the romantic castle ruins and breath-taking views across Purbeck. After dusk on the Thursday evening, the castle will shine bright in the colours of the charity; yellow and green.

Wellington Monument is the tallest three-sided obelisk in the world and stands as a tribute to the Duke of Wellington and all the military personnel that helped him to victory at the Battle of Waterloo. Its prominent location on top of Wellington Hill on the edge of the Blackdown Hills, has led it to become a symbolic marker on a journey within the local area and to the wider South West. It will be lit up from dusk and remain that way throughout the night - visibly seen from far and wide.

John Greenshields, Senior Volunteer for the National Trust (Wellington Monument) said:

We are only too pleased to support Air Ambulance Week for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and their crew. We are of course very grateful for all the past and present work they do for the local community.

Adam Evans, Visitor Operations and Experience Manager at Corfe Castle said:

Our local communities rely heavily on the emergency response of Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. We are delighted to show our support to their vital service.

Tracy Bartram, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Communications Manager said:

For over 20 years, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance has been there for critically ill and injured people when they need us the most. The enhanced skills of our team, specialist equipment and drugs that we carry, along with the speed of our response, can make the difference between life and death. The service that we provide for the local community is 95% funded by charitable giving, by people like many of you.
With every mission costing approximately £3,500 and the number of patients we are trying to reach increasing year on year, we need public support now, more than ever. This incredible awareness generating activity by Corfe Castle and Wellington Monument, supported by the National Trust is a truly wonderful gesture and will certainly increase awareness of our life-saving work.

During Air Ambulance Week, we are asking the public to show their support by donating £10 to our cause, enabling us to be there for patients, today, tomorrow and in the future.
