We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for two Patient and Family Liaison and Support Clinicians to work with Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWAST).

Year on year DSAA contributes to the life journeys of thousands of Dorset and Somerset people. These patients have medical and trauma conditions and are provided with pre-hospital critical care by the DSAA team, working within the governance structure of SWAST. The unique perspective on patient pathways that DSAA have underpins the creation of the Patient and Family Liaison and Support Clinician (PLaS) role.

DSAA PLaS clinicians will support patients to make sense of their life experiences, explain to patients and families their pathway of pre-hospital care, support links with other similarly injured patients and support patients to receive peer support. The PLaS clinicians will meet with families of patients who have received care from DSAA and died, in order to support their understanding of the care provided to their loved one. The DSAA PLaS team will be able to support patients to link with the DSAA charity if they desire and also assist patients to link with patient support services and charities aligned with their condition. The PLaS team will provide a visible, tangible, human face to DSAA within hospital clinical environments and therefore act as a strong part of the DSAA outreach campaign.

Applicants must be registered paramedics or nurses.
