David Senior The annual Portsea surf club event, involves a swim for a distance of 1500 metres. The event takes place in Portsea which is located off the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, South of Melbourne. My son lives in Australia and has entered the swim previously with his future wife and members of her family. I decided to enter this swim 2 years ago. I boldly threw down the gauntlet and said I would complete the 1500m in a better time than his future father in law. This was a poor decision, as he was an excellent Surf Lifesaver in his time, and importantly I could not swim! Unfortunately, sudden illness prior to departure meant that I could not travel to Australia and I was unable to show him my prowess! In hindsight, that may not have been a bad thing. It has given me the opportunity to train for an extra year with some good friends at the Swanage Sea Swim Club. I can now just about swim the 1500 meters in UK waters (seriously cold); however, I desperately need to improve my technique and times. Can I beat him on the day? That is the challenge I will face. With your help and support, I will attempt to do so in January 2019 and in the process raise valuable funds for the DSAA. David Senior
