In light of the developing situation of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance remains committed to maintaining a pre-hospital critical care service for 19 hours a day. We are working side by side with our ambulance service colleagues and local NHS hospital trusts to monitor any developments, ensuring that patients in Dorset and Somerset continue to receive the best possible care as the Coronavirus situation evolves.

Following recent Government directives to assist with the containment of COVID-19, we have already taken collective action in order to protect and assist in the effort to delay further spread. This includes the cancellation of events, door-to-door and supermarket lottery canvassing, talks, cheque presentations and upcoming engagements which involve the gathering of people. This is something that is very hard for us to do, as we take pride in being able to thank our supporters in person for their wonderful support, whether that be by raising funds, or simply learning more about our life-saving work.

It is a great shame that we also need to announce the cancellation of our 10^th annual Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge, which was due to take place on Sunday 17^th May. This is clearly disappointing as this is the only fundraising event that we organise ourselves and raises significant funds for the charity. However, our main priority must be to protect the health and safety of our patients, supporters, staff and the wider community, of whom we do not want to put at any unnecessary risk. We will be in contact with everyone who gained a place this year within the next few days.

In line with the Government’s directive yesterday, we are now enabling our charity staff to work from home where possible. This may result in some telephone calls or enquiries not being answered immediately, however, we will do our very best to get back to you as soon as we possibly can.
