Coast to Coast is an annual cycle challenge organised by Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. It is a charity fundraising event, raising vital funds to help critically ill or injured patients.
The event is a challenging 55-mile cycle ride that starts at Watchet Harbour in Somerset and ends at West Bay on the South coast of Dorset. The route follows a scenic route through the beautiful Somerset and Dorset countryside. With a mixture of quiet back roads, demanding climbs and hairy descents.
This event is renowned for being an emotional and inspiring day for everyone involved. No surprise given the fact that many of the cyclists include patients who have experienced the work of our air ambulance first-hand. Many participants also take part in the memory of a loved one. Others get involved as part of a team or simply want to challenge themselves while supporting Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance at the same time. Coast to Coast is designed to be a challenge and not a race, there is no pressure on those who are amateur cyclists.
Our annual cycle challenge has a maximum participation of 600 cyclists and two different distances:
There are various pit stops along the route for cyclists to grab refreshments. The pit stops are also safe areas for friends and family members to show their support.
With the support of West Somerset and West Dorset District Councils, Avon & Somerset and Dorset Police we pride ourselves on offering an event which is registered and insured with British Cycling.
No matter your reason, you can feel proud that your fundraising will make a big difference to so many peoples’ lives. Read more
