Air Ambulance to join family day in the park
Residents of Dorset and Somerset will have an opportunity later this month to spend a day in the park with their Air Ambulance team and members of other emergency services with whom they work closely.
The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance’s (DSAA) yellow Euro 135 helicopter will, subject to commitments, land in Vivary Park, Taunton, on Sunday, March 20.
The visit will be part of an Emergency Services Day where families are being invited to go along free of charge and have fun while learning more about the emergency services.
As well as the Air Ambulance helicopter, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue together with Avon and Somerset Constabulary will be putting on a dramatic road traffic collision demonstration.
Other attractions include road safety displays, advice on child safety seats and safe cycling, and opportunities to sit in a police car, ambulance, and fire engine.
Heartstart Somerset will be represented by volunteer instructors who teach emergency life support skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which more than doubles a patient’s chances of survival.
The day is in aid of the DSAA and is being supported by The Friends of Vivary Park. It runs from 10 am to 4 pm.
DSAA communications manager Tracy Bartram said: “It should be a really exciting free day out with lots of fun for children and adults alike.
“Visitors can also learn lots more about the people who are our police officers, firefighters, and paramedics, and the vital and often dangerous work they do. For instance, I am sure lots of people will not know the Air Ambulance does not receive any direct Government or National Lottery funding and so we rely entirely on public support to raise £1.4 million a year to keep our helicopter flying.”
