HUNDREDS of cyclists assembled at Watchet Harbour on the Somerset coast to take part in the 2nd annual Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Coast to Coast (C2C) Cycle Challenge on Sunday (May 20th).
Not designed as a race, the event attracted a wide range of ages and abilities, who set off on a ‘gruelling but glorious’ 54 mile ride to West Bay in Dorset. Some cyclists completed a shorter, 11-mile route which began at Drimpton in Dorset and also ended at West Bay. (more…)

A team of cyclists from NVB Architects, based at Rook Lane Chapel in Frome, are competing in the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge this weekend.
Bill Button, Will Button, Giles Vallis, Steve Maggs, Mark Duddridge, Andy Simpson and James McGillivray, who are all members of the cycle to work initiative that is run by the practice, have been training around the Mendips.
The ride will cover 54 miles from Watchet, on the north coast of Somerset, to West Bay in Dorset on Sunday. (more…)

Hairdresser Mandy Foot is having her head shaved for charity in memory of her brother Dean Gregory.
Popular Shepton sportsman Dean died in September 2009, after a long brave battle against cancer. He was 37.
Dean was voted Whitstone’s Sportsman of the Year in 1988 and went on to play football for Wells, Shepton Mallet and Pilton, cricket for Cranmore and he was also a popular member of the UB8 skittles team. (more…)

Warmwell Racing Stables & Stud are delighted to announce that their Charity Open Day is being held on Sunday 29th July from 2pm – 4.30pm.
Meet the horses and jockey’s and see the everyday running of the yard. Displays, side-shows, raffle and free car park. Proceeds from the day will go to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

A significant part of the Charity’s work involves the help of volunteers. We are extremely fortunate to have a wonderful team of existing volunteers who regularly donate their time. We have a busy few months ahead of us as the summer season begins and we are looking to recruit NEW volunteers to join our team. There are a variety of things you could do to help us, some of which include:
Event Support – attend events on our behalf, sell merchandise and meet the public
Box Collectors – help us collect existing and distribute new collection boxes to outlets in your area. (more…)

Don’t forget that there is another fantastic fundraising day taking place on Sunday May 20th! Apart from our Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge, the annual RITS Day will once again be full of action and entertainment, raising funds for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
Last year, this amazing group of people donated £9,000 to the Charity and this year’s entertainment line-up, looks incredible!
Riders In The Sky was formed after Lee Baker was killed on 8th November 2010. He was a good friend, brother, son and father. Lee was a keen motorcyclist and was also a dedicated charity supporter, raising money for a variety of causes.

There were great celebrations at Beer Club last Friday evening when the Axe Valley Runners (AVR) were delighted to hand out a record sum of over £42,000 to 52 various groups.
On top of this sum AVR had previously paid £3,300 for a substantial upgrade to the footpath linking the Fountain Head at Branscombe to the main coastal path as part of the Grizzly strategy of bringing benefit to the local community.
The Seaton and District Hospital League of Friends were given the largest donation of £10,000 towards the Seaton Home Health Care Service that enables people to die peacefully in their own homes . (more…)
