The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance promote and recruit new lottery members by door-to-door canvassing throughout the year. Canvassers are key to the Charity’s success and should always be polite, knowledgeable and carry photographic identity badges at all times.
Andy Goater Andy is 40 years old and lives in Broadstone. He is married and has two Border collie rescue dogs called Ben and Sam. Andy has been canvassing for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance since June 2009 having previously worked for a double glazing company and a Solar heating business. Andy believes he has a fantastic job and would not change it for the world. “Working for the Charity is so rewarding. The general public always give me a warm reception and I have met some really lovely people over the past 2 years.” Andy enjoys comedy, walking the dogs, and visiting Greece on his holidays.
Daren Oaten Daren is 42 years old and lives in West Buckland. He lives with his partner Kirsty and their rabbit called Snickers. Daren joined the Charity in March 2004, being our longest serving canvasser. Daren enjoys visiting the different towns and villages across Somerset. “Being a canvasser for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is so different to my previous job which was working for an Abattoir. With the support of the general public, I have helped raise thousands of pounds and I am proud to be able to help keep the Air Ambulance flying!” Daren enjoys running, and playing pool.
Dennis Thomas Dennis lives in Burnham-on-Sea and has been canvassing for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance since July 2007. He is widowed and has 2 children. “I believe that my job is not just about signing new members up to our Lottery, it’s also about helping to raise the profile of the service to the general public. I meet so many different types of people, with some extraordinary stories to tell and I am proud to be able to help make a difference.” Dennis is a quiz fan and enjoys doing crosswords. He enjoys walking in the countryside and eating out.
Phil Goater Phil is 38 years old, engaged to Tweet Tweet and has two daughters. “I have been fundraising for the
Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance for two years. It is a fantastic charity that I strongly believe in. I especially like a drive out into the country and talking to the public about our flight for life lottery.” Phil enjoys history and politics.
