McLaren 650SThe Western Group of Motoring Writers (WGMW) was formed in 1983 and boasts over 20 full and honorary members with interests that cover the full range of motoring journalism; regional and national press, broadcast media, trade press, photography and specialist publications.

The group holds an annual Driving Day at Castle Combe Circuit in Wiltshire every June. This invitation-only event blends both on-road and on-circuit driving with an element of fun and fundraising built in.  It asks for participants to make a donation on the day, in a bid to raise funds for deserving local charities.

A spokesman for the WGMW said: "We have held the event for motor enthusiasts for over 25 years and during that time have donated thousands of pounds to local charities.  Our members are asked to nominate and at our AGM held at the end of 2015, we thought Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance were worthy recipients for the work they do with motorists and people living in rural parts of the west-country.  We were delighted to be able to donate £500.”
