Summerfield’s Executive Chairman Richard Lloyd presents the Cup and prizes to Setsquare Recruitment’s first team

40 teams from Taunton and surrounds came together on an unseasonably chilly day on 3rd September to enjoy an afternoon of Boules and networking in the lovely grounds of Woodlands Castle.

The standard of fancy dress was excellent but the undisputed winners were Ashfords B team with their French mime artiste Marcel Marceau costumes. The Ashfords A team wore the same outfits but carelessly forgot to put their make-up on. Special mentions also go to the Mexicans (Davies Holdings ‘Davies Sports’ team), the Unstoppa-boules onion ladies from Porter Dodson and the Hawaiian-inspired Rule Brettania (Peter Brett Associates) team.

Taunton Deane Borough Council fought a hard battle to win 8-5 over Boules of Steel (Porter Dodson) in the final to win the Plate.

Setsquare Recruitment, taking part in the tournament for the first time, entered two teams and both made it to the Cup final! However, once there the seniors were trounced by the younger generation 0-7 and Setsquare One took the coveted prize.

The event was held in aid of Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and, topped up with a contribution from Summerfield, raised a total of £2,600. Debbie Birtwisle, their fundraising co-ordinator, gave a most interesting presentation on the operation of the air ambulance, full of facts we had never thought about.
