Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture Students with their cheque for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance

Kingston Maurward Agriculture students have raised more than £2,200 for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance in this year’s Muckathon – the College’s annual muckspreading charity challenge.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture students are tasked to spread, plough and cultivate 55 acres of land over two days using machinery and equipment kindly loaned by agricultural dealers, contractors, farmers and the College. The competition, in its thirteenth year, is embraced by the students every year to raise funds leading up to the event both individually and as a group via sponsorship, collections and competitions.

Student, Harry Goring, said: ''It was great fun to do the Muckathon – and very hard work! Everyone mucked in together and whilst we were all using different machinery throughout the competition we all worked well as a team. We’re really pleased to have raised so much money for such a worthy cause.''

Tracy Bartram, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Communications Manager, said: “Wow! The Agricultural students at Kingston Maurward College have once again been fantastic supporters of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance by raising such an amazing amount. “They are an inspiration to so many young people, not only because of the amount of hard work and effort involved with organising the whole event, but because they strive each year to support a cause which is close to their hearts.  We thank them all for their hard work and dedication and hope they had a great time in the process of raising the money!"

The students would like to thank all the companies and supporters that kindly contributed to the event including donating machinery, equipment and fuel for the Muckathon.
