Clive’s Big Cycle Ride!

Clive Dickin training for his big rideSix months ago, Clive Dickin, National Director of the Association of Air Ambulances (AAA) was offered a £5 bet by a colleague that he could not cycle from Strensham Services in Worcestershire to Filton in Bristol, a total of 55 miles. Never one to turn down an opportunity, Clive decided to challenge himself further, by using the opportunity to lose weight and raise funds for five air ambulance charities in the process.

With determination, he set about creating a cycle route which would see him visit the airbases of the air ambulance charities or play a part in their fundraising events.  Now, instead of the original 55 mile challenge, Clive will be cycling over 350 miles in a total of 5 days.

Clive’s itinerary begins on Saturday 16th May in Worcestershire and culminates in London on Wednesday 20th May.  Part of the challenge includes taking part in the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge on Sunday 17th May which begins at Watchet Harbour in Somerset and ends at West Bay in Dorset.

Clive’s Big Cycle Ride Itinerary:

  • Saturday 16 May, Strensham, 85 miles to Berrow via Filton
  • Sunday 17 May, 83 miles, Berrow to Watchet Harbour then taking part in the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge finishing in West Bay
  • Monday 18 May, 82 miles, West Bay to Salisbury
  • Tuesday 19 May, 60 miles, Salisbury via Thruxton to Farnham
  • Wednesday 20 May, 50 miles, Farnham to the Royal London, Whitchapel
