On reaching the milestone, she wanted to celebrate 80 years of life, and raise money for charity at the same time.

“I didn’t want lots of silly gifts,” she said.  “I would rather the money was put to a good cause.”

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and the Royal British Legion each benefited with a share of the £1,415 that Joyce raised from sponsorship.

Joyce, who now lives in the Yarlington Retirement Living scheme in Bruton, added, “I told my family I wanted to do a wing-walk, but they thought I was mad, and told me to choose something else.”

“I am so grateful for all of the support that I had from everyone, we never know when we may need the air ambulance so they deserve all the help they can get.”
