Wilko off to a Flyer with Apprentice Challenge

WilkinsonsTeam members from 13 South West Wilko stores recently raised over £1,000 for Air Ambulances in the South West area, as part of their commitment to their regional charities of the year.

In the style of the BBC’s The Apprentice, the challenge involved two teams who competed against each other in various business tasks. Team A, led by the Barnstaple store, was made of Wilko team members from Western-super-Mare, Exeter, Weymouth, St Austell, and Redruth, while Team B consisted of team members from Yeovil, Bridgewater, Taunton, Newton Abbot, Plymouth and Torquay, and was led by the Falmouth store.

The first task required the teams to buy a full range of second hand donations on a budget of £100. They then raised as much money as possible for the charities by selling the donations.

It was a close call, but by the end of the day, the team of stores led by Falmouth had raised the most money and, in true Apprentice fashion, everyone was called to the ‘boardroom’ for a tense Lord Sugar-style showdown.

Toff Ahmed, the regional manager of Wilko’s South West stores, said: “The challenge was a huge success and we are very proud of all our team members for embracing the competition. The challenge raised awareness for Air Ambulances in the region and we had lots of fun raising cash too!

“I’d like to thank all the customers who supported the event. Without their contribution, the competition wouldn’t have been such a success.”

Debbie Birtwisle, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance fundraising co-ordinator said, “The challenge was a really creative and fun way to raise money and we were so impressed with the dedication the Wilko teams put into the event. We would like to thank all the Wilko stores involved for all their hard work and a fantastic donation.”
