Hundreds of bikers gathered in Taunton over the weekend for teh 2011 Somerset Bike Rally Easter Egg Run. Bikers came from far and wide to raise money for the Dorset and Somerset Air ambulance and to deliver Easter Eggs to various care homes.
Tesco in Taunton and Trago Mills donated to the event, with Tesco allowing members of the bike group to collect donations from their customers.
There were a huge variety of bikes and trikes on show. Participants dressed for the occasion, some in Easter costumes and others with bunny rabbit ears on their helmets. (more…)

A Charity event is being organised by two close friends of Cheddar man James Hewlett who died on New Year’s Day.
Jon Filer and Will Higginbottom are holding a fund-raising day at Cheddar Football Club on May 1st in memory of the popular student and keen footballer, known as Jim to family and friends.
All funds raised from the event will be split between the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Frenchay Hopsital’s Intensive Care Unit. (more…)

The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Charity (DSAA) is warning residents not to be confused by a commercial company which has been carrying out doorstep collections of clothing, jewellery, toys, and other items.
The company is called Air Ambulance Service (Trading Co Ltd) but has no official connection with the DSAA. (more…)

Brean Golf Club has selected the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance as their Charity of the Year during 2011. Their fund-raising got off to a flying start with the annual Captains Charity Day.
Club Captain Dave Bradley along with his Ladies counterpart Jenny Vaughan and the Seniors leader Jim Longford were delighted as over £2,500 headed into the fund following a successful day. Twenty one teams of golfers were treated to glorious sunshine as they tackled the Brean course.
After their round, the players enjoyed the superb carvery served up in the Tavern and the winners received their spoils. An auction of golfing equipment and vouchers topped up the day’s total.

‘All Seasons’ Garden & Leisure store in Yeovil has chosen the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) as their Charity of the Year for 2011.
The official launch took place on Saturday April 16th at the store where members of the public met the crew, staff and volunteers of the Air Ambulance. Children entered an Air Ambulance cartoon coloring competition to win a trip to the Charity’s airbase and a store voucher worth £20.
Paul Butchers, All Seasons Manager, commented: “Each of the Garden & Leisure Group’s seven other stores adopts a local charity each year – and Melbicks in Birmingham and Huntingdon in Cambridge both support their local Air Ambulances – so helping DSAA seemed like the obvious choice for us. (more…)

This May, the Helicopter Museum in Weston Super Mare once again opens its doors to the World of Flight Simulation, and all for the benefit of the Great Western Air Ambulance and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
For 30 years, Flight Sim enthusiasts have enjoyed flying at home, and it’s of no surprise that a booming industry has grown around it. With the UK computer Games industry now worth more to the economy than the film industry, this event offers to showcase the brightest and best British computing talent has to offer. With over 40 exhibitors due to attend, this year promises to be our best ever.
Taking place over the weekend of the 13th of May, The Flight Sim Convention Weston will be open for press on the 13th, with the show getting under way at 9.30 on Saturday the 14th, and closing again at 5.30 on the Sunday. The Saturday promises something different as the museum comes alive at night with the sounds of the 60’s & 70’s disco, all to tie in with this year’s theme ‘the Vietnam war’. People across Dorset and Somerset are being asked to get on their bike to help support their local Air Ambulance.
The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) is staging a mass cycle ride from the Somerset coast to the Dorset coast.
The Coast 2 Coast (C2C) ride will take place on Sunday, June 19, as part of National Bike Week. (more…)

A new high-speed sponsorship deal for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) has seen a winning start.
The Air Ambulance’s yellow Euro 135 helicopter is now spray painted on both sides of a Ford Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S rally car built to the new World Rally R2 regulations. (more…)
