During Derek Andrews’ year as President of the Rotary Club of Blandford, his chosen charity was the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. A Charity Dinner at the Crown Hotel and regular donations throughout the year raised £1,300.
Several members of the club recently visited Henstridge airfield and presented a cheque for that amount to Annette Plaistow-Trapaud (DSAA fund-raising co-ordinator).
On a bitterly cold but sunny day, the visitors enjoyed inspecting the helicopter and listened to Leonie German and Mark Williams (DSAA aircrew paramedics) explain their important duties and the workings of the helicopter. (more…)

The Charity fundraising committee of the Hydrographic Office, Taunton, recently held a grand draw in aid of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. Raffle tickets were sold internally over a 2 week period and there were some exceptional prizes on offer for the winners. These included:
- The use of a house in Florida for one week (donated by Tracy Addicott), including transport to the airport.
- A holiday home in Exmouth for one week (donated by Christine Garland).
Paul James, Director of IT stated whilst buying his ticket that he would not accept any prize if he won, so true to his word, as his name was called out for first prize, he declined to accept and picked another ticket. The eventual winner was Alison Richards who was absolutely delighted! (more…)

Sainsbury’s store in Frome, Somerset recently held a Blues Night at Frome Ruby Club in aid of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
The evening was opened by deputy leader of the House of Commons, Mr David Heath MP, who expressed the importance of the Air Ambulance and the need for the public to show their support.
Fourteen year old Beth Hook sang a selection of well knows songs as well as one she composed herself. Organisers of the event wished to express their thanks to everyone involved, but especially to Custom Carpets and Chantry TV for their generosity. (more…)

Members of Wimborne and Ferndown Lions have raised a further £4,000 to help the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA).
The Lions supported the DSAA in 2008 and 2009 with two donations of £5,000.
A large part of the latest contribution came from the proceeds of the Dorset Charity Horse and Dog Show, organised by Lions Anne Heyes and Tara Harris. (more…)

Customers of Taunton’s Marks and Spencer store have raised a further £2,000 to help the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA).
The money comes on top of more than £5,300 raised by store staff and customers last year from a series of events to commemorate the company’s 125th anniversary.
It was achieved with DSAA collection tins displayed at each of the store’s till points, which also helped to raise awareness of the Charity with Marks and Spencer customers. (more…)

Chris Gray (pictured centre), ran the Great North Run during 2010 and decided to raise funds for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. It took him just under three hours to complete. Forty four friends and family members sponsored him, which helped generate a total of £310.00.
Unfortunately on the day that Chris and his family visited the airbase to present their cheque to the crew, our team and helicopter were out attending an incident. Annette Plaistow-Trapaud (DSAA fund-raising co-ordinator), received the donation on behalf of the charity and thanked everyone for their support.

Charlotte Raisbeck (DSAA volunteer and treasurer of the Social Club), recently visited our airbase, along with members and friends to present the cheque to Harry Lawes who received the cheque on our behalf.

Kayleigh Davidge organises an annual football tournament in memory of her father Martin.
The 2010 tournament was the largest event yet and raised a magnificent £1,300 with £700 of the proceeds being donated to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
Next year sees the 10th anniversary of the tournament and plans are already being put in place to make it a huge success. (more…)

A MOTORCYCLE crash victim still in hospital after having his leg amputated has inspired a major donation to the organisation that saved his life.
Ben Whitney, 21, an electrical design engineer at AgustaWestland in Yeovil, collided with a chevron sign after his back wheel slipped on gravel near Chard.
Ben’s family were twice warned he might not survive. (more…)

During 2010, Gregg Venn completed the Lands End to John O’Groats cycle ride taking in the four cardinal points in three weeks supported by his wife Denise. We asked Gregg to tell us about his fundraising effort and share with us some of the highlights along the way…..
About 12 months ago I had an idea for a holiday. As I enjoy cycling, I decided to ride Land’s End to John O’Groats. I had already completed this 26 years ago when I was 18, so I wanted to take a slightly different route. (more…)
